"Between Us and Society": How Do We Identify Ourselves and Bond in the Social World Around Us?
This exhibition brings together works from undergraduate students of various disciplinary backgrounds within the Department of Sociology and Social Policy at Lingnan University. Students presented observations and reflections on emerging social issues and addressing them through creative responses.
Students from the Sociology course Digital Society are presenting digital essays that imagine techno-social trends in the near future. Health and Social Services Management students are showcasing Service-Learning workshops that addressed youth mental health. Social and Public Policy Studies students are bringing us posters and artwork that reflect on social services in communities, as part of their internships and Service-Learning. These works inspire us to think about our individuality in society. While we are part of grander social change at the time of modernization and digitization, there is a voice individuals can make in rethinking social phenomena.
This exhibition is a dialog. A dialog between our students in how they reflect and image what society could be. It is also a dialog with visitors, on how university education can look like.

Workshop Venue:
Join us for a creative journey of self-discovery and empathy! In this interactive workshop, participants will express their unique personalities and inner worlds by coloring their own hand puppets. After the creative process, all puppets will be collected and randomly redistributed. Participants will then take turns sharing their feelings and interpretations of the puppet they receive, stepping into the shoes of another creator. Through this engaging activity, you will learn to acknowledge your strengths and vulnerabilities, fully embrace your true self, and build deeper connections with others.

Coffee and Everyday Life Sociology
Coffee is an essential beverage in many communities where billions of cups are consumed every day. This guest lecture is about using our sociological imagination to rediscover our relationship with this tiny bean. We will explore how coffee shapes culture, labor, and globalization, from farm to café table. Through coffee, you will see how sociologists see the extraordinary in the ordinary in daily life. Sociology isn’t guesswork or “just common sense,” but a scientific way to analyze social phenomena. Join us for the coffee, and go home with a fresh perspective.
Coffee will be served for all guests to taste, inviting you to experience its rich flavor and the interwoven cultural stories behind every sip.

Who cares for the caregivers? Dementia caregiving and Hong Kong’s health and social challenges
This brief talk explores dementia caregiving as a largely overlooked health and social challenge in an ageing society. Drawing on the everyday experiences of family caregivers, it examines how dementia affects not only those living with the condition but also family routines, emotional wellbeing, employment, and social relationships. The talk highlights caregiver support as an important area for health and social service planning, coordination, and policy development.
