About Us

Our Focus

  1. The degree is ideal for those students who have a strong desire to expand their knowledge of finance and are keen to work in the finance industry in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and internationally.
  2. The degree will emphasize the important concepts, skills, and theoretical and institutional underpinnings of finance in Term 1 and more advanced topics and practical aspects in Term 2.
  3. The degree will provide a comprehensive education for students who wish to attempt the major professional qualifications in finance such as the CFA, CIIA, FRM, and CII designations.

  4. Our undergraduates in BBA in Finance have enjoyed great success in their careers in commercial and investment banking, fund and wealth management, insurance, and in other financial institutions. We fully expect that our graduates in the MSc in Finance will also be able to compete well in the job market. Non-local students have the opportunity to stay in Hong Kong to look for a job upon graduation.

Our Strength

  1. Our full-time professors have many years of experiences in teaching all aspects of finance. All staff have PhDs from major U.S., European, and Hong Kong universities and are active researchers who publish their work in the major journals. Our staff have extensive expertise in China, regional, and international financial markets and institutions.
  2. Our staff have professional qualifications in accounting, actuarial science, financial analysis and investment, insurance, risk management, and tax. This attests to the professional relevance of our teaching and enables us to provide the best guidance to students who want to take the major professional qualifications in finance.
  3. The MSc in Finance is a university affiliation programme of the CFA Institute, which has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the program. 
  4. The Faculty of Business is accredited by the AACSB, the premier international accreditation agency of business schools. This attests to the quality of our programmes and teaching staff.

  5. Upon completion of the programme, graduates may be granted exemptions from Stage I and Stage II of the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) Certified Banker qualification examinations.

Our Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the functions and operation of financial institutions and of how financial services benefit firms and individuals.
  2. Analyse the risk and return profiles of different investments and devise suitable investment strategies.
  3. Demonstrate mastery of quantitative skills in applying financial models and performing financial analysis and valuation.
  4. Develop and apply risk management techniques and financial products to control exposure to risk in a global capital market; and
  5. Explain how compliance to regulation and ethical standards in the business environment are implemented by financial institutions.
