Faculty members of the Department of Government and International Affairs possess diverse academic backgrounds and expertise. They have extensive teaching and research experiences in their fields.

Staff involved in teaching the MAIA programme currently conduct research with diverse projects, including political economy of global inequality, global environmental governance, China's grand strategy and Sino-US security relations, China's One Belt, One Road, grievances and governance of China’s ethnic minorities, Chinese cyber nationalism, Chinese village governance, politics of democratization and identities in Hong Kong, Hong Kong legislative and judicial politics, sports politics of the Greater China, civil society and governance, contentious politics, politics of corruption and others.

Staff have conducted commissioned consultancy projects for Hong Kong and international public bodies including the Central Policy Unit of Hong Kong government, the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the European Union.

Staff have regularly organized and/or attended academic conferences and workshops and/or given public lectures to present their latest research and have dialogue with experts in their subject areas. Several staff have been often interviewed by local and international media to share their views and analyses on international and regional affairs issues.
