Hostel Residency for PG Students admitted in 2024-25 and After

Question 1:  What is a designated hostel for postgraduate (PG) students?

Answer 1:  Lingnan University is implementing a gradual migration plan to provide a more stable and conducive living environment for postgraduate (PG) residents.  This plan involves moving PG students from scattered PG floors in different student hostels to a designated PG hostel. The designated PG hostel will be a block selected from the existing student hostels.  New PG students with hostel offers will be housed in the designated PG hostel.  Current Research Postgraduate (RPg) students may opt to either relocate to the designated PG hostel or remain in their current hostel.

Question 2:  I am a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student admitted in 2024-25.  Can you advise me on my eligible residency years throughout my study period in the University?

Answer 2:  PhD students admitted to Lingnan University, regardless of the year, will be accorded the highest priority in the postgraduate category of hostel applications.  They will continue to maintain their eligibility for student hostel residence throughout their normal study period.

Question 3:  I am a Doctor of Policy Studies (DPS) student admitted in 2024-25.  Can you advise me on my eligible residency years throughout my study period in the University?

Answer 3:  DPS students admitted in 2024-25 or after, are eligible for one year of residency at the University’s student hostel.  If a DPS student wishes to continue staying at the hostel beyond the initial one-year residency period, their applications will be evaluated through a “Returning Postgraduate (PG)” system that will be administered by the School of Graduate Studies starting from AY 2025-26 onwards.

Question 4:  I am a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) student admitted in 2024-25.  Can you advise me on my eligible residency years throughout my study period in the University?

Answer 4:  MPhil students admitted in 2024-25 or after, will not be eligible for residency at the University’s student hostel.  This change in policy has been made to align with the University’s research growth strategy. You may find the information about off-campus accommodation options HERE.

Question 5:  I am a Taught Postgraduate (TPg) student admitted in 2024-25.  Can you advise me on my eligible residency years throughout my study period in the University?

Answer 5:  TPg students admitted in 2024-25 or after, other than DPS students, will not be eligible for residency at the University’s student hostel.  This change in policy has been made to align with the University’s research growth strategy.
