Aims
The MScSCTA programme equips students with a solid understanding of smart cities, urban planning and design, statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and data analytics and visualisation techniques for smart cities. It familiarises students with industry-standard tools and technologies, such as generative artificial intelligence, cloud computing platforms, and spatial analysis tools. Through hands-on projects and real-world applications, students learn to collect, analyse, and interpret data, enabling them to make informed decisions and derive actionable insights.
Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)
On completing the MScSCTA programme, students will be able to:
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles and methodologies of smart cities and data science.
Describe and interpret contemporary artificial intelligence, urban planning, data analytics, Internet of Things, sustainable development and other information technology techniques for smart cities.
- Design, implement, deploy, and manage the solutions for real-world problems using industry-standard data science tools, programming languages, and software platforms.
- Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify appropriate data science methods, tools, and algorithms for specific problems and challenges in smart cities, and to evaluate their performance and limitations in different scenarios.
- Monitor and value the ethical and responsible use of data science methods and tools, including security, privacy, fairness, transparency, and accountability in data collection, analysis, and decision-making processes.
- Demonstrate the ability of effective communication and interpersonal skills in team environment.
