The Department of Chinese at Lingnan is not only a place for learning, but also a space for meaningful encounters. Studying BA (Hons) Chinese has allowed me to develop my career path, starting from my interest. With the encouragement and help of the professors, I can engage in further studies, and continue developing in related fields.

嶺南中文對我而言除了是求學問道之地以外，還在此處結多少緣份。通過修讀中文文學榮譽文學士課程，我得以從自身興趣出發，規劃自己的職業路向。有賴中文系老師的支持和協助，我可以繼續向中文相關的方向進發、持續進修。

Thanks to Cultural Studies, I gained valuable knowledge about society, such as why we need Commons, cultural performance, digital culture and policy cultures, developing a deeper understanding of how to approach social issues from multiple perspectives. Such experience guided me toward discovering what I truly want to pursue or research.
 

透過學習文化研究，我對社會有了更深入的認識，探討了共同體的重要性、文化表演、數字文化和政策文化等主題，進一步了解如何以多元角度分析社會議題。這些寶貴的經驗啟發我找到了真正想要追求或研究的方向。

Studying BA in Contemporary English studies has allowed me to develop my skills at critical thinking and provided me with a growing knowledge and appreciation of both linguistics and world literature in English. This remarkable journey has not only nurtured my personal growth, but also equipped me with the confidence to excel in all facets of life.

通過修讀當代英語研究課程，我得以發展批判性思維，並對英語語言學和世界文學有了更深的知識和欣賞。這非凡旅程不僅培養了我個人的成長，也讓我有信心在生活各個方面上都能表現出色。

LAM Wai Ching, Jade 林煒晴

BA (Hons) in Film and Visual Arts, Year 4, 2025-26

FVA played a pivotal role in helping me realise my dream of becoming an expert in filmography and creating works I am genuinely proud of. Throughout my journey, the programme enriched and enhanced my skill set with both conceptual insights and practical techniques, including genre exploration and understanding the system of the film industry. I also gained hands-on experience through practical courses like video art and an overseas internship in the United States. Additionally, the faculty encouraged us to explore related areas, and I had the opportunity to curate my first art exhibition alongside fellow artists, which broadened my interests and enhanced my career viability.

電影與視覺藝術課程 (FVA)， 在我追尋夢想、立志成以電影創作為專業，並創作出自豪的作品路上，扮演了舉足輕重的角色。過程中，無論是觀念啟發還是實務技巧，這門課程都大大豐富並提升了我的專業能力，包括對電影類型的探索，以及對電影工業體系的深刻認識。我亦在錄像藝術課程以及在美國的海外實習機會獲得了珍貴的經驗。老師們更會鼓勵學生探索相關領域，我有幸能與其他創作者共同策劃我的第一個藝術展覽。我認爲FVA 課程不僅拓展了我的興趣，更提升了我的職涯發展潛力。

People often question what I learned while majoring in history—was it the history of war, national development, or cultural history? In fact, during my four years pursuing a bachelor's degree, I explored a diverse and fascinating array of historical subjects, including animation history, migration history, world history, and many other intriguing topics.

Thanks to the small class sizes, I formed close relationships with both professors and classmates. Whenever I had questions, I could always approach them and receive insightful answers. Our professors encouraged us to think critically rather than blindly accepting what we read in books. This approach helped me develop my own studies and projects and provided a clearer understanding of my future career paths.

Moreover, it was a fantastic environment for meeting new people. I cherished the time spent with friends, engaging in healthy competition and learning from each other. These experiences and relationships are among the most valuable treasures I gained from studying and living at Lingnan.

人們經常問我，主修歷史究竟學了些什麼？是戰爭史、國家發展史，還是文化史？事實上，在就讀學士學位的四年裡，我探索了許多豐富多元且引人入勝的歷史課題，當中包括動畫史、移民史、世界史，以及許多其他有趣的專題。

由於課程實行小班教學，我與教授和同學的關係都很密切。每當我遇到問題，我可以向他們求助，獲得具啟發性的答案。我們的教授鼓勵我們培養批判性思考，而非盲目接受書本上的知識。這種教學方法幫助我拓展了自己的研究與專案項目，也讓我對未來的職涯規劃有更清晰的藍圖。

此外，嶺大也是個結識新朋友的絕佳環境。我很珍惜與朋友們一起渡過的時光，大家在良性競爭中互相學習、共同成長。在嶺南大學學習和生活所累積的經歷與人際關係，是我所收穫最珍貴的寶藏之一。

BA (Hons) in Translation, 2024 Graduate

‘Will I be replaced by AI?’  I thought about that over and over again before my first day of school. Time flies and, as a translation graduate, I am proud to say that I will not be replaced by AI. AI can translate, but a translator never merely translates. At Lingnan, doing translation means doing films, literature, pop culture, and all sorts of intriguing subjects that have shaped me into who I am. Another highlight of our department is its encouraging environment, where my professors are always willing to offer guidance and support.

I have embarked on a new chapter as a financial translator. If you are still wondering about your future or whether you will be replaced by AI, come join us and discover who you truly are.

「我會被AI取代嗎？」在入學第一天前，這個問題曾無數次在我腦海中浮現。光陰似箭，如今作為一名翻譯系的畢業生，我可以自豪地說：我不會被AI取代。AI確實能夠進行翻譯，但翻譯者的價值絕不僅止於文字轉換。在嶺南大學，修讀翻譯意味著深入探索電影、文學、流行文化等各類引人入勝的課題，正是這些養分造就了今天的我。翻譯系的另一個亮點，在於洋溢鼓勵氛圍的學習環境，教授們總是隨時給予我悉心的指導與支持。
