IICA-TDLE Project (Current, 2025–28 Triennium): IDEAL-Gen.AI Platform Enhancement Project
As part of the 2025–28 Triennium initiatives, the current two-year Inter-institutional Collaborative Activities for Teaching Development and Language Enhancement (IICA-TDLE) project, led by Lingnan University, aims to transform teaching and learning through the strategic integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). Building upon the successes of the previous IICA-TDLE projects, this initiative focuses on enhancing the IDEAL-Gen.AI platform (Instructional Design Enhanced Active Learning through Generative Artificial Intelligence) to meet evolving pedagogical needs, fully leverage GenAI technologies and position Hong Kong as a global leader in the AI-enhanced education landscape.
A consortium of five participating universities led by Lingnan University (LU), with collaboration and funding from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and in-kind support from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) will work together to advance the IDEAL-Gen.AI platform enhancement project.

IICA-TDLE Project (2023-25): Extending Online Standards and Enhancing Professional Practices for Virtual Teaching and Learning
Building on the foundation of the first project, the second phase of the IICA-TDLE initiative, titled “Extending the Online Standards and Enhancing Professional Practices for Virtual Teaching and Learning,” involved four participating universities with Lingnan University (LU) leading the project. This phase was supported by funding from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and in-kind contributions from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
The primary goal of this project was to create an online resource toolkit, deliver professional development workshops, integrating the toolkit with pedagogically-sound instructional design strategies and pedagogical best practices and hosting dissemination events, including a symposium on the “Transformation of Higher Education in the GenAI Era: Innovation, Best Practices and Impact” to highlight the project’s key achievements and impact and showcase the developed toolkit.

IICA-TDLE Project (2022-23): Establishing a Shared Quality Assurance Framework for Online Learning and Teaching
To promote broader adoption of virtual teaching and learning (VTL) and foster systematic collaboration among the eight UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong, the University Grants Committee (UGC) and the Quality Assurance Council launched a Special Grant for Strategic Development of Virtual Teaching and Learning in 2021, supporting inter-institutional collaborative activities (IICA), focused on driving the long-term development of VTL.
The IICA-TDLE Project titled “STANDARDS, SYNERGIES and SUPPORT – Establishing a Shared Quality Assurance Framework and Standards for Online Learning and Teaching” was led by Lingnan University (LU) with a consortium of six participating universities. The project benefited from collaboration and funding contributions by The University of Hong Kong (HKU), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and City University of Hong Kong (CityU), as well as in-kind support from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
Together, these institutions developed a comprehensive Hong Kong Quality Assurance Framework and Benchmarking Standards on Virtual Teaching and Learning document that can specifically be adapted and tailored specifically to each university's unique strategic planning approach, serving as both a diagnostic and performance measurement tool, enabling stakeholders to shape institutional policies, drive standardisation, enhance quality and inform institutional policy and strategy in the context of Virtual Teaching and Learning (VTL).
