Generative AI Assessment System (GAAS)

The Generative AI Assessment System (GAAS.AI) is an innovative initiative funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) through the Fund for Innovative Technology-in-Education (FITE). This programme aims to enhance educational practices across universities by promoting the adoption of technologies, including generative AI. The overarching goal is to transform pedagogies, enrich student learning experiences, and foster digital competency. In 2024, the Teaching and Learning Centre (* Change to Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning since 27 May 2026) at Lingnan University successfully secured funding from FITE to advance these objectives.

The project "Assessment AI: University Assessment & Blended Learning Tools Powered by Artificial Intelligence" leverages generative AI technology to foster student-centric learning by providing personalised feedback on assignments. This initiative aids educators in understanding student performance and adapting their teaching strategies, offering consistent and fast feedback that highlights strengths, weaknesses, and actionable recommendations to students for improvement. Moving forward, the system will focus on generating assessment questions, including both generic and higher-order analytical questions, to enhance students' critical thinking and analytical skills. Overall, GAAS aims to transform assessment feedback by delivering quick, accurate, and personalised insights, fostering critical thinking and reflection among students, and enhancing the teaching and learning experience via assessment work.

Academics are invited to participate in the trial and ongoing use of GAAS, exploring the potential of generative AI in education.
