後社會主義與資本主義社會的「傳統再造」:1949年以來中國大陸與香港粵劇制度的比較研究
This study compares the artistic legitimation of Cantonese opera in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland since 1949. While the field of Cantonese opera across both societies faces similar tensions stemming from competing interpretations of tradition, these dynamics give rise to contrasting patterns of socio-cognitive categorisation. Building on our previous GRF project (Ref. 17602521) on the Hong Kong Cantonese opera sector, this research incorporates a comparative perspective to examine the social and cultural foundations of artistic legitimation. We investigate why incumbents in Hong Kong promote traditional performance forms while their challengers espouse avant-garde styles, whereas incumbents in the Mainland advocate avant-garde Cantonese opera while their challengers support traditional performance. Addressing these paradoxes advances our understanding of the politics and social construction of cultural categorisation, illuminating contrasting trajectories of professional identity construction and artistic legitimation in comparative contexts.
