Eligibility
Academic Requirements
- Eligibility:
- Non-final year full-time students enrolled in a 4-year degree program (excluding Year 1 students).
- Both UGC and non-UGC funded program students are eligible.
- Final year students are not eligible to apply.
- Application Timeline:
- Year 2: Eligible for exchanges in Term 1 or Term 2 of Year 3.
- Year 3: Eligible for exchanges in Term 1 of Year 4.
- GPA requirement
- Minimum Cumulative GPA: A minimum CGPA of 2.50.
Language Requirement for International Exchange Programme (IEP)
Students applying for the IEP must meet one of the following criteria:
TOEFL Scores:
Minimum score of 213 (computer-based), 550 (paper-based), or 79 (internet-based).

Minimum score of Band 6.0 (Academic Module).

Note: Register for TOEFL and IELTS as early as possible, preferably before the IEP application opens. Your application will not be considered without valid score reports submitted by the deadline.
Chinese Language Requirement for Mainland Exchange Programme (MEP)
A good command of Chinese and Putonghua at the level of LCC1010 Chinese Communication I or equivalent is required.
Commitment to Internationalization
Students applying for the Student Exchange Program (SEP) are encouraged to actively support the campus's internationalization efforts and serve as cultural ambassadors. You can achieve this by:
- Participating in the Global Ambassador Scheme: Join initiatives organized by the Office of Global Education (OGE) to assist incoming students.
- Living Arrangements: Reside with non-local or incoming exchange students in student hostels for at least one term.
Application Procedure

Step 1: Application Period
- Application Period: Applications open in mid-September each academic year.
Preparation Before Applying:
- Attend SEP information sessions in September-October.
- Expolre the OGE website and host institution websites.
- Seek advice from your academic advisor, returned exchange students and OGE staff.
- Research and shortlist host institutions that best match your academic goals, preferred courses and financial considerations.
- Plan your study schedule and discuss course selection and credit transfer arrangements with your Academic Advisor.
Step 2: Completing the Application
During the application period, submit your application online via the Online Application System and complete the following requirments:
- An essay (100-500 words) outlining your reasons for applying and your intended learning outcomes.
- A proposed academic plan for your 1st and/or 2nd choice (IEP only).
Academic Endorsement and Reference: Submit the email address of your Academic Advisor and a faculty member referee in the Online Application System.
The faculty member should have taught you for at one semester. It is strongly recommended that you discuss your exchange plans with your Academic Advisor and obtain the faculty member's consent before submitting their contact information.
- Research host institutions, select up to five preferred destinations, and discuss your exchange plans with your Department or Academic Advisor.
- A copy of your IELTS/TOFEL score report (IEP only).
Step 3: Selection Interview & English Proficiency Submission
You will receive an email about the selection interview, typically held in Early-January.
Interviews are conducted in English, Cantonese, or Putonghua by faculty and OGE staff. Prepare well to impress the selection panel.
For IEP applicants, submit your TOEFL/IELTS score reports by the specified deadline.
Step 4: Application Results
You will receive an email with your application results via the Online Application System around early February.
Results are based on a comprehensive review of your application, including interview performance, academic records, and language proficiency.
Successful applicants are required to confirm their exchange offers through the Online Application System. Upon confirmation, students will receive details regarding the nomination process to their host institution and the subsequent formal application procedures.
Nomination to host institutions is typically conducted:
February to April for First Semester exchange
September to October for Second Semester exchange
Student must complete and submit all required application documents to their host institution by the specified deadlines.
Pre-departure Briefing
All outbound exchange students are required to attend the Pre-departure Briefing before commencing their exchange studies. The briefing is normally held:
August for students departing for Fall Semester exchange
December for students departing for Spring Semester exchange
Student should pay close attendion to email announcements for the Office of Global Education (OGE) for briefing arrangements and important pre-departure information. Attendance is mandatory for all exchange participants.
