Jointly organized by Lingnan University (Hong Kong SAR, China), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Clearwater Bay, Hong Kong; Guangzhou, Guangdong), the University of Tokyo (Tokyo, Japan), and the University of Alberta (Alberta, Canada)

Following on from the first two International Workshops on Technologies for AI Governance in 2024 and 2025, the Third International Workshop - TAIG 2026 will be held on 27-28 November 2026 (Friday and Saturday) in Hong Kong.

The first two workshops were held in association with Lingnan University in Hong Kong and University of Bologna in Italy, respectively, and included AI experts, distinguished scholars and industrial leaders from notable institutions including UC Berkeley, University College London, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Alan Turing Institute, Tsinghua University, University of Bologna, IBM Research Tokyo, EY (Ernst & Young), Microsoft Research Asia, etc.

Building on the experience gained from the first two workshops, the third workshop will be co-organised and co-sponsored by Lingnan University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Clearwater Bay, Hong Kong; Guangzhou, Guangdong), the University of Tokyo (Tokyo, Japan), and the University of Alberta (Alberta, Canada).

Tentative Workshop Schedule

This two-day intensive workshop aims to bridge the gap between technological innovation and effective governance mechanisms. Our primary goal is to foster deep, interdisciplinary dialogue among leading researchers, engineers, and ethicists to explore how technology can actively enable and strengthen AI governance. Each morning session of both days will feature keynote presentations and a panel discussion by invited guest speakers from around the world, followed by the presentations of accepted papers in the afternoons.

AI technologies and their applications across sectors are advancing rapidly. Current trends demand a focused discussion on how technology can operationalize governance principles. This workshop directly addresses this need by focusing on the following scope of topics.

• Risks and Governance of Frontier AI

  • AI regulation and compliance

  • Risks and impacts of frontier AI models, AI Agents, and Physical AI

  • Governance philosophies/frameworks/mechanisms/methodologies of frontier AI

• Value Alignment

  • Evaluation of value alignment of large language models, large multimodal models, and AI agents 

  • Value alignment techniques for large language models, large multimodal models, and AI agents

   

• Human Autonomy and Oversight

  • Evaluation and mitigation of threats to human autonomy in human-AI interaction (persuasion, manipulation, etc)

  •  Human oversight and control mechanisms/methods/techniques

• Transparency & Interpretability

  • Transparency documentation of data, models, systems, processes, and outcomes

  • Explainability methods: Understanding model decisions (attention visualization, feature attribution)

   

• Fairness & Bias Mitigation

  • Bias detection and mitigation for training data

  • Bias evaluation and mitigation for model outputs

Call for Papers

We invite submissions of extended paper abstracts of no more than two pages in PDF format, based on original research work. Authors of accepted abstracts will be expected to attend the workshop and present their work in person. After the workshop, authors will be invited to submit full-length papers, to be included in an edited volume in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. All extended abstracts and full-length papers will be peer-reviewed.
