LU Business Student Team Representing Hong Kong Wins CGMA Global Business Challenge 2022 (North Asia)
In late May 2022, a team of four Lingnan University (LU) Business students defeated seven of the best student teams in Hong Kong, including teams from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and The University of Hong Kong, to become the Champion of the CGMA Global Business Challenge for the Hong Kong region. As the champion, the LU team automatically represented Hong Kong in the subsequent North Asia final.

Team 404, as the LU team is called, consists of LU business undergraduate students Lau Lok-tin (Year 3 BBA-Finance), Lee Cheuk-wun (Year 4 BBA-Human Resource Management), Chong Yuen-yau (Year 3 BBA-Human Resource Management) and Aaron Cheuk Hiu-fung (Year 3 BBA-Marketing).

On 10 July 2022, following their win at the Hong Kong final, Team 404 became the Final Champion of the CGMA Global Business Challenge 2022 for the North Asia region. In this highly anticipated round, competing teams were given 24 hours to analyze a given management accounting case and present their case to a panel of elite judges, many of whom are financial leaders in a wide range of industries. Team 404 outperformed nine other teams representing Mainland China, Macau, Japan, and Mongolia to secure the championship. One of Team 404’s members, Aaron Cheuk Hiu-fung, was also selected out of the forty finalists to receive the Best Future Business Leader Award for his exceptional performance.

Although the competition was strenuous and stressful, the members of Team 404 ultimately expressed their gratitude for their victory. “Though it was a challenging journey filled with obstacles, we overcame the challenges together as a team, ensuring that we help each other out to produce the highest quality of work,” the team members commented. “We are very grateful that our hard work and perseverance, together with the support and words of encouragement from our mentor and Lingnan University, had led us to achieve our goal.”
In total, the CGMA Global Business Challenge 2022 (North Asia), an international business competition designed to test the problem-solving capabilities of undergraduate students, garnered the attention of over 200,000 online and domestic viewers. Over 500 teams entered this global competition organized by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the world’s largest professional body of management accountants.
