Lingnan University (LU) is pleased to announce its successful participation in the Gerontech and Innovation Expo 2023 (GIES). LU's booth was located at B215, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1/F, 1A-C, from 23-26 November, showcasing different gerontech products at the LU Jockey Club Gerontech-X Lab. The collaboration models and the latest project output in collaboration with NGOs (The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council and Yan Oi Tong) were also discussed at the booth. LU's Jockey Club Gerontechnology and Smart Aging in Place (GTSA) Project team believes that continuous partnership with the community is a significant milestone and showcased the determination of LU to improve the lives of the aging community in Hong Kong. In addition to the booth, LU faculty members led and encouraged undergraduate and postgraduate students to learn about the Gerontechnology story and the valuable work that LU is doing to make a difference in the lives of the elderly.

A group of undergraduate students from the PMS4103 Gerontechnology and Managing Ageing Society course toured the GIES as a part of their learning experience. Mr. CHONG Yiu Kit, one of the students from the class, shared his learning experiences toward the course and gerontechnology:"This course has been extremely beneficial to me. I am fascinated by this course because the knowledge I have acquired can be applied to my life and to the people around me. I vividly remember the design thinking workshop conducted in class, which left a deep and unforgettable impression on me. In these activities, our lecturer asked us to design products to help older adults, and I saw many of my classmates' diverse creations, and everyone was deeply involved. Compared to traditional educational models, this learning method better stimulates students' creative thinking and enhances their understanding. Furthermore, we visited the GIES, where I learned about various elderly technology products covering aspects such as diet and entertainment. The soft meal products, in particular, left a deep impression on me. For example, the soft food's taste and texture were genuinely refreshing, making it one of my most memorable experiences in this activity.

I aspire to pursue my future studies in the field of ageing studies. I enjoy conversing with seniors, listening to their past experiences, and this has provided me with a unique perspective. Additionally, through previous volunteer activities, I have realized that many elderly groups require assistance. With the advancement of technology, different types of gerontechnology products can help these elderly groups more conveniently. I hope to study related subjects, create or design some products to help these groups, and even apply them to the people around me in the future. Through further learning and professional knowledge accumulation, I can gain a deeper understanding of the needs and challenges of the elderly and develop innovative solutions suitable for them."
