Lingnan University hosts the Symposium on Internationalisation and Quality Management in Higher Education

Lingnan University Institute of Policy Studies, together with Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership (APHERP), National Chengchi University College of Education, and Deakin University, and supported by the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities (AALAU), organised the Symposium on Internationalisation and Quality Management in Higher Education 2023 on 9 May 2023.

 

In his welcoming remarks, Prof Joshua Ka Ho Mok, Vice-President of Lingnan University cum Dean of School of Graduate Studies expressed his appreciation for this collaborative platform for academic exchanges, as well as a warm welcome to the speakers and participants onsite and online. Prof Mok reflected on the core mission of higher education by highlighting the importance of a better understanding about culture, history, and religion across countries, and working together for the goal of creating a better environment for students and preparing them to be responsible citizens.

 

The symposium offered a platform for distinguished scholars and students from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, The United Kingdom and Vietnam, to discuss and promote academic exchanges on topics related to internationalisation and quality assurance in higher education. In the keynote speeches, Prof Ly Tran from Deakin University in Australia introduced her latest study on student mobilities and its related impact focusing on the Indo-pacific region. The second keynote speaker, Prof Angela Yung Chi Hou from National Chengchi University in Taiwan, shared her views through her study in Taiwan’s private higher education and its trend. The third keynote speaker, Prof Brue John Macfarlane from The Education University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong, discussed the metrics mania and a way of use of metrics responsibly.

 

Topics such as international education and graduate employability, international education, English language, and public diplomacy, quality assurance in higher education: policy and perception, as well as mobility of students and programmes were addressed by the symposium panels.  

 

In their closing remarks, Dr Yusuf Ikbal Oldac, Research Assistant Professor at the School of Graduate Studies of Lingnan University, and Dr Kai Zhao, Research Assistant Professor at the School of Graduate Studies of Lingnan University expressed their appreciation to all participants for their contributions to a successful symposium. Their indicated plans to host the symposium again next year.
