Guangdong Rehabilitation Medicine Association Visited Lingnan: Exploring the Development Status of Rehabilitation in the Greater Bay Area

A delegation from the Guangdong Rehabilitation Medicine Association visited Lingnan University (Lingnan) to discuss the current development status of rehabilitation in the Greater Bay Area on 27 September, 2024. Dr Chloe Siu from the Institute of Policy Studies and the School of Graduate Studies provided a brief introduction to the academic achievements and project outcomes of Lingnan University in the field of gerontechnology. Dr Oladosu Ayomide Oluwaseyi from the School of Graduate Studies shared Lingnan’s efforts and accomplishments in promoting age-friendly communities in the region, demonstrating the extensive impact and social significance of related projects, and outlining the collaborative direction between Lingnan and the Greater Bay Area for age-friendly communities. Prof Shi Cheng and Dr Ameyaw Edward Kwabena then elaborated on the health-related master's programs, detailing their objectives and contents, and showcasing the unique advantages of Lingnan’s School of Graduate Studies in health management education.

Chairman Dou Zulin of the Guangdong Rehabilitation Medicine Association expressed gratitude to the Lingnan team for their warm reception and envisioned a promising future for the development of rehabilitation medicine in the Greater Bay Area. The delegation emphasized the importance of this exchange visit, hoping to strengthen cooperation and exchange in the field of rehabilitation medicine between the two regions through this activity, to meet the needs of the aging society in the Greater Bay Area and align with national policy developments. Following the project introductions, the delegation engaged in discussions and exchanges on the current development status, research progress, and future cooperation directions of rehabilitation medicine.

At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation toured the Fong Sum Wood Library and the Lingnan Jockey Club Gerontech-X Lab at Lingnan University. Through these site visits, the delegation gained a deeper understanding of the facilities and educational environment at Lingnan, as well as insights into the development of rehabilitation and gerontechnology. This exchange visit enhanced the connection between the Guangdong Rehabilitation Medicine Association and Lingnan. Both parties agreed to continue strengthening cooperation in the future, jointly promoting the flourishing development of gerontechnology and rehabilitation in the Greater Bay Area.
