On 22 May 2026, students and lecturers from the health-related taught postgraduate programmes offered by the School of Graduate Studies (GS) at Lingnan University (Lingnan), together with Lingnan’s gerontech ambassadors, joined the “Thinking, Create a Better World” event hosted by HKSKH Bishop Hall Secondary School. The Lingnan team gained deeper insights into the secondary school’s active promotion of STEAM and positive education, and recognised how its students applied design thinking to develop innovative solutions and products tailored to the needs of older adults, thereby addressing their real-life challenges.

Students from the GS and Lingnan’s gerontech ambassadors offered valuable recommendations on the innovative works created by secondary school students, and fostered intergenerational interaction and collaboration through face‑to‑face exchanges. Liu Jiali, a student from the Master of Social Sciences in Health and Social Services Management (MHSM) programme, expressed that, “During the visit to the gerontechnology projects designed by secondary school students, I saw many works full of innovative ideas, which inspired me to reflect on how artificial intelligence technologies can be integrated into solutions that stimulate older adults’ cognitive functions and help delay cognitive decline. Through hands-on practice, students genuinely understood how to make good use of human-centred artificial intelligence technologies to enhance the health and sense of fulfilment of older people.”

Eric Opoku, a student from the Master of Science in Health Analytics and Management (HAM) programme, shared that, “The innovative projects showcased during the event were highly impressive. In particular, the health data monitoring tools and related software developed by secondary school students demonstrated strong functionality and promising potential. Another air diffusion device could bring multiple benefits to older adults, including enhanced sleep quality. I hope their creativity and aspirations will continue to grow and reach even greater heights.”

This cross-generational exchange event not only deepened students’ understanding of gerontechnology product design, but also enhanced their awareness of how technological innovation can effectively address the needs of an ageing society. These experiences further inspired their commitment and aspirations to contribute to the future development of healthcare technology.
