Lingnan University Mentorship Programmes - Happy Hour

Lingnan University has officially launched its 2025-26 Mentorship Programmes, with close to 600 mentors and mentees across a broad spectrum of disciplines. To mark the commencement of this year’s initiatives, a Happy Hour themed “People Strength amid Digital Tide” was held on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, at Watermark, Central Ferry Pier No. 7, bringing together leading alumni, industry leaders, students, and friends of the University to celebrate the enduring value of human connections in an increasingly digital era.

This year’s key events include the Lingnan University Postgraduate Mentorship Programme (LUPMP), the Lingnanian Executive Mentoring Programme (LEMP), the Banking & Finance Mentorship Programme, the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP), and the LU Insurance and Family Office Mentorship-cum-Scholarship Scheme. The mentors are seasoned professionals, distinguished Lingnan alumni, and senior executives from principal firms in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, and overseas, whose expertise spans banking, finance, accounting, property management, advertising, community service, etc.

Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing of Lingnan University, welcomed both mentors and mentees warmly, and underscored the importance of personal relationships in this digital age, saying “While technology can connect data, it is people who build understanding. The bonds formed here tonight between experienced professionals and aspiring students are the ultimate expression of our mission.” He also mentioned Lingnan University’s recent achievements, including its place in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, coming in the top 301–350 globally and ranking 47th in International Outlook, and also coming first worldwide for SDG 4: Quality Education in the THE Impact Rankings 2025, which is a first for any university in Hong Kong.

Mr Bernard Wu Tak-lung, Chairman of the Career Development Committee, emphasised the transformative power of mentorship in bridging academic learning and professional realities.  Expressing heartfelt appreciation to the mentors, he said “You are not just sharing career advice; you are sharing a part of your journey.” Mr Wu also encouraged students to actively engage with their mentors and build enduring professional relationships. He paid tribute to Ms Carrie Leung Ka-lai, the outgoing Chairman of the Career Development Committee, for her visionary leadership and foundational contributions to the programmes’ success.

The mentorship programmes will run through 2025-26, offering students targeted career guidance and opportunities to cultivate meaningful relationships with alumni and industry leaders. In regular meetings and structured activities, mentors and mentees will discuss experiences, workplace insights, and practical career advice, and students will also benefit from access to internship and employment opportunities through their mentors’ professional networks. These engagements are designed to help them apply academic learning in a real-world context, fulfil their potential, strengthen their leadership capabilities, expand their professional networks, and encourage sustained personal and career development.
