Inter-university Collaborations in Advancing Humanitarian Technology Together
At LEI, we believe in the power of collaboration to address pressing glocal challenges through innovative solutions. As we work with partners worldwide to develop and apply technological advancements for the betterment of underserved communities, this fosters a dynamic environment for learning, research, and real-world impact, empowering students and faculty to make a tangible difference together.
Collaborative Research and Development (R&D)
LEI extends our impact by providing real-world cases that serve as capstone and research opportunities for students at leading international universities. This includes:
- Advancing the design, manufacturability and usability of our innovative air purifier for Hong Kong's subdivided units: collaboration with MIT D-Lab (USA)
- Transforming indoor air quality for health: collaboration with Lehigh University (USA)
- Participatory design innovation to solve challenges in rural Uganda: a model for the future, jointly developed with Carnegie Mellon University (USA)
- Design innnovation of WaterScope, a fieldwork water test kit developed by Cambridge University (UK)
- Capstone project supervision for Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, University of Toronto (Canada)
Technology Transfer
We work together with regional universities leading in applied science and technology to develop technical solutions. Geographical proximity is a key factor as technology transfer and development requires close continuous collaboration. Partners include Guangdong University of Technology (Mainland China) and Batangas State University (Philippines).
Hosted at Lingnan University, our flagship programme, Humanitarian Technology Summer Internship, brings together students from selected universities to focus on R&D of our HT projects. The 6-week long intensive internship programme focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration, from technology adoption to sociological considerations for community implementation.
