Time: 25-26 October 2025 (CET)
Venue: Room 3.4, Faculty of Engineering, University of Bologna, Italy or Online

Jointly organized by Lingnan University (Hong Kong SAR, China) and the University of Bologna (Bologna, Italy)

The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly the rise of highly autonomous Agentic AI systems and the widespread proliferation of powerful open-source models, presents unprecedented opportunities alongside profound challenges. Ensuring these technologies are developed and deployed safely, ethically, and for the benefit of humanity necessitates robust governance frameworks. Crucially, governance itself increasingly relies on technological solutions for monitoring, auditing, aligning, and enforcing compliance.

Recognizing this critical juncture, Lingnan University and the University of Bologna are proud to co-host the 2nd International Workshop on Technologies for AI Governance (TAIG), as part of the 28th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI 2025). This 1.5-day intensive workshop aims to bridge the gap between technological innovation and effective governance mechanisms. Our primary goal is to foster deep interdisciplinary dialogue among leading researchers, engineers, and ethicists to explore how technology can actively enable and strengthen AI governance.

AI technologies and their applications to sectors are moving rapidly. Current trends demand a focused discussion on how technology can operationalize governance principles. This workshop directly addresses this need by concentrating on three pivotal frontiers:

  • Technologies Towards Human-Centric AI

Exploring tools for fairness, transparency, and value alignment to keep humans firmly at the center of AI development.

  • Risks and Governance of Agentic AI

Examining the unique safety, controllability, accountability and other challenges posed by increasingly growing agentic AI capability, and the technological safeguards required.

  • Governance on Open-Source AI

Addressing the distinct opportunities and risks (security, misuse, accountability) inherent in powerful open-source based AI ecosystems, and the technological standards needed for responsible openness.

Beyond these core sessions, three expert panels will delve deeper into:

  • Distinct Considerations of AI Agents Governance Panel

Tackling practical implementation and ethical quandaries.

  • Governance on Open-Source AI Panel

Focusing on de-factor standards, open source rules, safety responsibility sharing, and sustainable innovation in open models.

  • Human-Centric AI on Tools for Fairness, Transparency, and Value Alignment Panel:

How do we turn AI ethics into engineering practice? We explore concrete tools and methods that keep humans at the center of AI development.

This workshop seeks to identify actionable technological pathways, stimulate collaborative research, and contribute to the development of effective, scalable tools essential for governing the next generation of AI responsibly.
