Terms of Reference

1. To be responsible to the Senate for the academic standards and quality assurance of the programmes and courses (both undergraduate and postgraduate) offered by the Faculty and to report thereon to the Senate from time to time;
2. To endorse new programme proposals, departmental annual programme reports and 5-year programme reviews;
3. To provide a forum to stimulate academic development, and research and knowledge transfer activities of the Faculty;
4. To set up committees, task forces and working groups as appropriate in support of the academic and quality assurance work of the Faculty; and
5. To perform any other duty as may be required by the Senate.

Terms of Reference

To serve as a regular forum for the Faculty’s leadership to discuss issues and polices related to the development and operation of the Faculty and to make decisions where appropriate.

Role

The role of an Advisory Board is to act as an interface between Government / industry / commerce / the community at large and the Departments concerned of the University.

Terms of Reference

An Advisory Board shall normally meet once a year to help plan and keep under review the following aspects of work including future developments:

1. Level and length of courses / programme(s) concerned in relation to local needs;
2. The relevance of the courses / programme(s) in relation to the changing needs and nature of potential employment in Hong Kong of graduates of the University;
3. The prospects of local employment for graduates;
4. The adequacy of the equipment and other resources of the academic units to fulfill local needs;
5. The development of teaching and other activities carried out jointly by the academic units and the appropriate sector of the community;
6. Investigation consultancy and other services given by the academic units; and
7. Keep under review the assistance which the community can give to further the objectives of the University in the subject concerned by way of practical training facilities, the provision of part-time teaching staff and equipment, the award of scholarships, student-fellowships, etc.

1. To assess project proposals applying for Direct Grant, Conference Grant, Faculty Research Grant and to report the funding results to the Research Committee, subject to availability of fund;
2. To review the Annual Reports of the research institutes/centres/programmes within the Faculty;
3. To be responsible to the Postgraduate Studies Committee for issues relating to admission, studentship, progression and graduation of research postgraduate students, as well as appointment of supervisors; and
4. To monitor and give advice to taught postgraduate programmes in the Faculty (if needed).

  • One representative from each of the four Departments nominated by the respective Head of Department, or Head of Department

*The main roles of Chairperson are to convene and chair the meetings of the RPSC. The Chairperson does not vote unless it is necessary to break a tie.

^The student member should be a full member of the RPSC and attends the meetings for agenda items relating to research postgraduate matters, except those the Chairperson considers confidential.

Terms of Reference

1. To formulate policies and guidelines pertaining to the quality assurance and enhancement of the TPg programmes within the Faculty;
2. To review and endorse new TPg programme proposals and major changes to existing TPg programmes on behalf of the Faculty Board;
3. To review and endorse annual TPg programme reports and 5-year TPg programme reviews on behalf of the Faculty Board;
4. To oversee overall quality assurance matters, coordinate academic and operational issues, and make appropriate recommendations to individual TPg programmes within the Faculty; and
5. To report to the Faculty Board and/or other relevant University committees on matters relating to the quality assurance of the Faculty's TPg programmes.

  • The Committee may invite Programme Directors of Taught Postgraduate Programmes in Social Sciences to attend any meeting

Terms of Reference

1. To take charge of the degree programme including the design, implementation and review of the curricula and the achievement of the intended student learning outcomes;
2. To liaise with all departments concerned on programme matters such as course offerings for each academic year;
3. To liaise with the Registry on all academic matters including review of academic regulations and examination matters;
4. To review admissions policy for the degree programme; and
5. To deal with all other matters related to the degree programme.

Terms of Reference

1. To promote understanding between students and teaching staff;
2. To consider feedback and suggestions from students regarding teaching, learning, and course evaluation and issues of importance for enhancing teaching and learning quality; and
3. To consider any other matters of concern to students.

Terms of Reference

1. To maintain the academic standards of the programme at a level appropriate to the type of award;
2. To approve examination question papers after considering the views and recommendations of External Academic Advisers, where appropriate;
3. To maintain general supervision of the system of continuous assessment, where it applies;
4. To maintain the proper conduct of examinations;
5. To determine students’ examination results;
6. To assess the progress of students and to report its decisions, including its recommendations for Honours Degree classification, to the Undergraduate Examinations Board; and
7. To consider appeals referred to it by the Registrar.

  • All staff concerned with the setting and marking of any part of the examinations in the host Departments

Terms of Reference

1. To formulate student recruitment strategy and policy for the Faculty of Social Sciences;
2. To determine the criteria of various admission schemes (JUPAS, Direct Admissions, Chinese Mainland and Overseas students);
3. To promote the academic programmes offered in the Faculty of Social Sciences;
4. To evaluate applicants, interview candidates and make decisions on admission where appropriate;
5. To work closely with Undergraduate Admissions Committee on all matters related to admissions of students to the Faculty of Social Sciences; and
6. To deal with all other matters related to undergraduate admissions and recruitment of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
