Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Cultural Studies (BACS) Programme accepts UG admission students from the following categories:
- JUPAS
- Local Direct Admission
- Non-local Direct Admission (Mainland China & Overseas)
- Mainland JEE (Gao Kao)
JUPAS admission
Local applicants who wish to apply for the full-time government-funded BACS Programme based on their current and/or past HKDSE results through Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) using JUPAS Code: JS7606
Minimum University requirements for JUPAS applicants
- Level 3 in English Language, Chinese Language
- Level 2 in Mathematics, Liberal Studies, and one elective subject
Category A Core/Elective Subjects: 5**=7, 5*=6, 5=5, 4=4, 3=3, 2=2, 1=1
Category C: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1

In addition to scholarships offered by the University, a number of other awards are available specifically for students taking the BA (Hons) Cultural Studies, which include:

- the Cultural Studies Alumni Scholarship
Department of Cultural Studies Scholarship for Academic Excellence
The Scholarship HK$6,000, shall be awarded to one Year 2 to Year 4 full-time undergraduate student majoring in Cultural Studies, who attains the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the current semester.
Department of Cultural Studies Scholarship for Cultural Commons
Two scholarships of HK$5,000 each shall be awarded to (i) two Year 2 to Year 4, full-time undergraduate students majoring in Cultural Studies. (ii) Awardees should have actively participated in workshops/activities of the Urban Commons Project(s) and have been practicing urban commoning.
FAQ
- 1. I am a JUPAS applicant, do I need to put the Programme in Band A choice?
Band A applicants will be prioritized in the admission after the release of the HKDSE result. Hence applicants should put our programme in Band A to increase the chance of admission.
- 2. I am a JUPAS applicant, where can I find the admission scores of the programme in previous years for reference?

Please note that the evaluation of students is NOT only based on academic performance, but also on performance in extra-curricular activities, interviews, tests and other factors which reflect the all-round performance of applicants. The information contained here is for reference only.
- 3. I am a Non-JUPAS applicant, can I apply for direct entry to Year 2 or 3? Can I apply for credit transfer or course exemption upon admission?
We accept applications for direct entry to Year 2 only. SD Year 1 Students/Final Year Students/Graduates may apply for 30-credit block transfer. Please click here to refer to the Registry website for more information regarding Credit Transfer and Course Exemption.
- 4. How many places are available through JUPAS and non-JUPAS admission?
The number of places is not pre-determined, it will depend on the number and quality of applicants. Usually the places are between 30 to 40.
- 5. Do you interview students for admission?
- JUPAS: Band A applicants may be invited to attend interviews.
- Non-JUPAS: Yes, admission interview will be arranged. Shortlisted candidates will be notified through email with relevant details.
- 6. How will the interview be conducted? What should I prepare for the interview?
The interview provides an opportunity to meet you and find out about your personal qualities and interest in the programme. You will have the chance to meet the faculty members and learn more about the programme.
Applicants will be asked a wide range of questions. It is important to be yourself. Preparing short speeches is discouraged. More details of the interview arrangement will be provided in the interview notification.
