Admission Requirements

Lingnan University welcomes applicants from around the world. Non-local applicants must have fulfilled the General Admission Requirements and English Language Requirements for admission to the University:


A. General Admission Requirements

B. English Language Requirements

In addition to the General Admission Requirements, applicants are also required to fulfil one of the following English language requirements :

Level 3 in English Language

Grade E in AS Level Use of English

GCE System

One of the following:

  • Grade E in GCE AL / IAL or AS / IAS Level English
  • Grade C in GCE O-Level / GCSE / IGCSE English / English Language / English Literature
  • Grade 4 in reformed GCSE English Language / English Literature
  • Grade 4 in reformed IGCSE English / English Language / English Literature

International Baccalaureate (IB) 

Grade 4 in one of the following English Language subjects:

  • English A
  • English B
  • English Literature and Performance

TOEFL 

A score of 550 (paper-based test); or 

a score of 79 (internet-based test / iBT Home Edition); or

an overall score of 60 (Paper-delivered Test) (October 2017 onwards)

(in one sitting, MyBestTM score is not accepted)

IELTS *

Overall band score of 6.0 in Academic Module

SAT Reasoning Test

One of the following:

  • Pre-March-2016 SAT: Score 8 in essay writing
  • Redesigned SAT: Score 590 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing

ACT

Score 23 in both English and Reading

AP

One of the following:

  • Grade 4 in English Language and Composition
  • Grade 4 in English Literature and Composition

 

The following qualifications are accepted as meeting the English language requirements:

70% in Grade 12 English Course

Chinese Mainland A score of 110 (out of 150) in the English subject of National Joint College Entrance Examination (JEE) or equivalent
Denmark Score of 7 or above in Level A English in Studentereksamen, Hojere Forberedelseseksamen (HF), Hojere Handelseksamen (HHX) or Hojere Teknisk Eksamen (HTX)
Finland One of the following:
  • Upper secondary school certificate (lukion paastotodistus / gymnasiets avgansbetyg): minimum grade 8 in English
  • Matriculation exam (ylioppilastutkinto / studentexamen): minimum grade 4 (Cum Laude Approbatur) in English
France Score 12 in English subject in French Baccalaureat (OIB-Bristish, American Options)
Germany Abitur: Grade 10 in English

India

SSC / HSC / ISC Standard XII: 70% in English

Malaysia

One of the following:

  • Grade C in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) English Language 1119
  • Grade C in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysian (STPM) English Language
  • Band 4 (Aggregate Score: 180-219) in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)
  • Grade B4 in UEC Senior English Language
Netherlands Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijik Onderwijs (VWO): Grade 8 in English
New Zealand NCEA Literacy: 10 credits at Level 2 in subjects on English, with 5 credits in Reading and 5 credits in Writing

Norway Vitnemal: Grade 4 in English
Russia A score of 80 in English in Russian Unified State Exam (Единыйгосударственный экзамен, ЕГЭ, Yediniy gosudarstvenniy ekzamen, EGE)
Singapore Grade C in H1 General Paper in Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Level
Sri Lanka Credit in English Language in Sri Lankan Ordinary Level examination
Sweden Slutbetyg / Examensbevis från Gymnasieskolan: Grade C or Grade VG (in old grading system) in English

Taiwan

One of the following:

  • General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT 學科能力測驗) English result within the top percentile (頂標)
  • Advanced Subjects Test (指定科目考試) English result within the top percentile (頂標)

Please note that the admission to the University is on a competitive basis. The University adopts a merit-based admission policy by which the best qualified candidates are admitted.  As such, satisfying the university admission requirements does not guarantee admission.


Applicants will be considered for admission to the 4-year curriculum on individual basis, subject to the availability of places. Applicants with suitable credit transfers may be admitted to be Year 3* students with Major/Stream/Discipline Major allocated. Applicants who are granted a transfer of 54 credits or more will be admitted to be Year 3 students.
