    Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Contemporary Art

    The Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries (DACI) is an interdisciplinary and innovative learning hub that encompasses a wide range of areas, including film and television, animation, museums and curating, art history, as well as digital arts and immersive media. We offer broad theoretical study and practical training for students seeking careers in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area's burgeoning creative and cultural industries. DACI currently offers three Undergraduate programmes, BA (Hons) Aminations and Digital Arts, BA (Hons) in Creative Media Industries and BA (Hons) in Film and Visual Arts, and two taught master programmes, MA in Creative and Media Industries (MACMI) and MA in Curating and Art History (MACAH).     DACI is inviting applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant/associate professor to contribute to teaching and research in contemporary art, art collection or cognate areas in art and creative industries. The appointee is expected to: 1. teach relevant courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervising undergraduate and/or postgraduate final projects; 2. to develop innovative and rigorous research and generate research outputs with high impact; and 3. to contribute to service and development of the Department.


    General Requirements


    Applicants for the position should have:
    (i) A PhD degree in art history, museum studies, or a relevant area;
    (ii) Good track record of publications, grants, awards;
    (iii) Some experience in teaching or developing digital humanities courses in art history, art collection or creative industries;
    (iv) For the associate professor post, candidates should demonstrate a proven record in administration and knowledge transfer or community engagement.


    Salary and Benefits

    The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will normally be made on a renewable contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointments with possibility of consideration for substantiation.

    Hong Kong Research Grants Council Postdoctoral Fellowship 2025/26

    Lingnan University’s Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries welcomes applicants in cinema and digital media studies to nominate for a Hong Kong Research Grants Council Postdoctoral Fellowship competition. The fellowships last for 36 months and come with an initial annual salary of HKD $420,090 (about USD $53,000) that can be increased at the discretion of the department. The appointment will also come with a HKD $13,350 research and travel allowance. Although nomination does not guarantee a fellowship, individuals who have been nominated stand a strong chance in the competition.


    Candidates from all fields of cinema and media studies are encouraged to apply. However, candidates whose interests substantially align with those of existing department members have a greater chance of success.     We will provide a wide range of opportunities for self-conducted, mentored, and collaborative research in a vibrant and supportive environment. The recipient of an RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship will be paired with a Digital Arts and Creative Industries faculty mentor and is expected to publish research output with international impact. Applicants should provide information about their work experience, qualifications, research interests and achievements.


    Qualifications


    • Applicants must have obtained / been conferred a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification on or after 1 January 2020 (i.e. not more than three years before 2023), or will complete the requirement of a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification by 31 August 2024; and
    • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in cinema studies, media studies, art history, communication studies, or related fields with experience conducting cinema and digital media studies research.
    • Academic potential, the capacity to bring varied ideas to the Digital Arts and Creative Industries Department, and the willingness to connect with a wide variety of colleagues and students will be significant selection criteria.

    Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme for the Academic Session 2024/25

    Lingnan University’s Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries welcomes applicants in cinema and digital media studies, museum studies, and creative industries for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) for the Academic Session 2024/25. The applicants who are seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in the fields of cinema and digital media studies, Chinese art, museum studies, and creative industries are encouraged to apply.     Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability/potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. In 2023-24, each Fellowship awardee will be provided with a monthly stipend of HK$27,600 (subject to annual review; approximately USD 3,500) and a conference/research-related travel allowance of up to HK$13,800 per year (subject to annual review; approximately USD 1,700), for a maximum period of 3 years. For an awardee with a normative study period of 4 years, the University will offer the same level of fellowship and conference/research-related travel allowance for their fourth year of study.

    Lingnan University will conduct selection of applicants for its PhD programmes and nominate those outstanding and brilliant ones for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowships. The RGC will set up selection panels to evaluate/assess the nominations submitted by institutions.


    Those who are nominated but are not finally offered the Fellowship, and those not selected for nomination for the Fellowship, will be given consideration for admission as PhD students at Lingnan taking up places assigned to the University with Postgraduate Studentship awards.
