Professor Song is an internationally renowned scientist who contributed to reliable neuroadaptive control systems. His research interests are broad and include intelligent systems, guidance, navigation, and control, as well as bio-inspired adaptive and cooperative systems, with a particular focus on data-driven control and machine learning methodologies.

Professor Song was elected as a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in November 2025. He has published 12 books and over 400 scientific papers, and holds 100 patents issued by China, the USA, and Japan. He has received numerous research grants from the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, the Asian Office of Aerospace Research and Development, the National Institute on Aging, and the U.S. Department of Energy. He has made significant contributions to the academic community through his role as an Associate Editor for several prestigious international journals, including several leading IEEE journals. Currently, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems. He has been recognised as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University for multiple consecutive years and has been listed as one of the most Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate since 2021.
