Lingnan Foundation strengthens bonds with Lingnan University during recent visit

On 19 and 20 June, representatives from the Lingnan Foundation, including President Dr Ding-Jo Currie and Mr Ian Heuer, visited Lingnan University, demonstrating the enduring partnership and the Foundation’s invaluable role in supporting the University.
The visit began with engaging meetings, where Dr Currie and Mr Heuer met with students who benefited from various initiatives funded by the Lingnan Foundation, including service-learning, entrepreneurship training and overseas exchanges. These students shared their valuable experiences and the transformative impact these initiatives had on their personal growth.
During the meeting, Prof Richard M. Walker, Director of the Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study (LUIAS), shared the strategic direction of LUIAS, highlighting how the Foundation's contributions are advancing research and academic initiatives. These interactions provided the Foundation with insights into how its support is positively changing the lives of students, fostering their development and enriching the educational experiences at Lingnan University.
On the second day, Dr Currie and Mr Heuer attended the “Lingnan Foundation Distinguished Lecture Series: AI for Education and Research Workshop”, organised by LUIAS. The workshop, featuring distinguished speakers Dr José Bowen and Dr Edward Watson, explored innovative AI applications in academic settings and ethical considerations, attracting around 100 participants and further demonstrating the Foundation's significant impact on enriching the University's academic dialogue.
To honour this vital visit, Prof S. Joe Qin, President of Lingnan University and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science, hosted a dinner for Dr Currie, Mr Heuer and other guests, exchanging ideas on the University's strategic vision and upcoming initiatives. To express profound gratitude for the Lingnan Foundation’s unwavering support and commitment to fostering mutual collaboration, President Qin presented a souvenir to the Lingnan Foundation — a digital animation of a watercolour that beautifully captures the original Lingnan campus in Guangzhou. The original artwork was created by our distinguished alumnus from 1908, Mr Szto Wai, and donated by Lingnan Foundation to the University about 17 years ago.
The connections forged during this visit are a testament to the Lingnan Foundation's impactful support of Lingnan University, empowering both the institution and its students to pursue excellence and innovation in their academic journeys.
