On June 10th and 11th, representatives from the Lingnan Foundation visited Lingnan University. The representatives are Dr. Leighton Chan, M.D., Chair of the Lingnan Foundation Board of Trustees; Dr. Chan Chi-Chao, M.D., Vice Chair of the Lingnan Foundation Board of Trustees; Dr. Ding-Jo Currie, President of Lingnan Foundation and Trustees of the Board of the Lingnan Foundation, including Mr. Li Ling, Mr. Sikee Louie, Dr. Denzil Suite, Mr. Michael Woo, Mr. Tommy Woo, Dr. Leslie Wong and Prof. Henry Yu.
On the first day of their visit, the Lingnan Foundation representatives had a meeting with Prof. S. Joe Qin, the President of Lingnan University and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science, and senior management of the University, including Prof. Raymond Chan Hon-fu, the Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing; Prof. Yao Xin, the Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning; Prof. LAU Chi-pang, the Associate Vice-President (Institutional Advancement and External Affairs); Prof. Sam Kwong Tak-wu, Associate Vice-President (Strategic Research) and J.K. Lee Chair Professor of Computational Intelligence, Prof. Li Dong-hui, Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs); Prof. Bradley Barnes, Interim Director of the Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study; and Prof. Xiang Yong, Associate Dean (Research and Innovation) of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
They discussed the university's strategic vision, upcoming initiatives, and the vital role that Lingnan Foundation plays in supporting the university's mission. During the meeting, President Qin expressed gratitude for the Foundation's ongoing support, acknowledging their contributions to student empowerment and academic enrichment through service learning. The visit helped to strengthen the partnership between the university and the Foundation, fostering continued collaboration on future projects.
The representatives from the Lingnan Foundation were also able to immerse themselves in Hong Kong's vibrant culture. They were accompanied by Lingnan students as they watched the thrilling dragon boat races in the scenic Aberdeen.
In the evening, President Qin hosted a dinner at Gold Coast Yacht & Country Club to welcome the representatives from the Lingnan Foundation. During the meal, more friendly discussion and exchanges took place.
On June 11th, the representatives met with students who had participated in service-learning programmes and overseas exchange programs, gaining an understanding of how these programmes had broadened the students' horizons and enriched their university experiences. Prof. Albert Ko, Director of Office of Service-Learning, Dr. Arokiaraj Aloysius Wilfred Raj, Associate Programme Director of Office of Service-Learning, Dr. Simon Xu, Director of Office of Global Education and Ms. Vien Lee, Programmes Manager of Office of Global Education also joined the sharings.
