Si Yuan Foundation visits Lingnan University

Lingnan University welcomed representatives from the Si Yuan Foundation, Mr Eric H M Lee and Mr Lai Ying Kam, on 22 November 2024.

The Chen Tseng Tao Staff Club, situated on the second floor of the Lau Lee Yuen Haan Amenities Building, has been renamed the "Si Yuan Lecture Room" in honour of the late Dr Chen T Thomas and his Si Yuan Foundation's invaluable support. This transformation underscores Lingnan's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its academic community and enhancing students’ educational experiences. The renovation was completed in September 2024 and will serve as a new lecture room for faculty and students in Term 2 of the 2024/25 academic year. 

During the visit, Mr Lee and Mr Lai toured the newly renovated lecture room and also met with professors and students from the Department of Marketing and International Business and the guest speakers, who are going to have a seminar in this lecture room.

The late Dr Chen T Thomas, one of the founders of the Hang Lung Group, established the Si Yuan Foundation in 1997, named after the Chinese idiom “drinking water, think of its source,” which embodies the importance of giving back to society. The unwavering support from Dr Chen and its Si Yuan Foundation has played a vital role in Lingnan's growth. The recent transformation of the Staff Club into the Si Yuan Lecture Room symbolises a new chapter of collaboration between Lingnan and the Foundation. 

This initiative is a testament to the late Dr Chen’s enduring legacy of generosity and commitment to community service, which continues to motivate and inspire future generations. As Lingnan honours the late Dr Chen, the University eagerly anticipates further collaborations with the Si Yuan Foundation, continuing the supportive legacy established by Dr Chen and the Foundation.
