Promoting Secrets to Happiness

The Wellness Ambassador Programme (WAP), generously supported by Wofoo Social Enterprises, has emerged as a transformative initiative for advancing mental health and well-being among young people since its launch in 2020. Organised by Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre at Lingnan University, this Programme equips students with practical psychological skills and counselling techniques. Through 12 hours of immersive training sessions, participants are empowered to promote wellness and foster overall youth mental health, contributing meaningfully to their communities.

Justin Cheung, a 2025 graduate of the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in Psychology at Lingnan University, joined WAP in his third year. He shared how this experience changed his perspective on life and happiness and helped him to realise the profound power of listening. Through the interactive sessions, he developed a deep understanding of psychology and learnt how to proactively support those around him. “Even small actions can make a big impact in life,” he shared—a core belief that was instilled in him throughout the training. Additionally, the Programme enhanced his self-awareness and equipped him with effective stress management techniques.

Prof Siu Oi-ling, Head of the Department of Psychology, Lam Woo & Co Ltd Chair Professor of Applied Psychology, and Director of the Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre at Lingnan University, emphasised the necessity of tangible actions to improve youth mental health. She said, “Participants showed significant improvements in resilience and growth mindset, while negative emotions such as depression and anxiety were markedly reduced.” These outcomes highlight the substantive impact of the WAP, made possible largely by the invaluable contributions of Wofoo Social Enterprises.

WAP’s influence now extends beyond Lingnan University, reaching secondary schools and universities across Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and even overseas. Its training modules have been integrated into the peer counselling programmes of 16 higher education institutions across the Greater Bay Area under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Psychological Counselling Alliance, benefiting more young people and elevating their well-being.

The unwavering support of Wofoo Social Enterprises has been instrumental in scaling the Programme across campuses and borders, exemplifying its vital role in fostering a more compassionate and harmonious community for the future.
