Impact of Giving

Generously supported by Dr Stephen Suen, founder of the Chamber of Young Snow (CYS), Lingnan University has inaugurated the Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall (“the Hall”) on its Tuen Mun campus since 2023. Dedicated to promoting traditional Chinese art, the Hall has significantly enriched the campus’s cultural atmosphere and provides invaluable experiential learning opportunities for students by showcasing a remarkable collection of Chinese artwork from the CYS, helping to nurture a new wave of cultural and creative leaders. 

Mr Eliott Suen, Executive Director of the Chamber of Young Snow, highlighted, “Dr Suen firmly believes that traditional Chinese art is not merely a witness to history, but a spiritual and humanistic link connecting the past, present and future. Through the establishment of the Hall, we hope to spark greater appreciation for this priceless cultural heritage and encourage its preservation for future generations.” 

Duncan Yiu, a graduate of the Master of Arts in Curating and Art History, shared, “My internship at the CYS Art Exhibition Hall broadened my curatorial perspective and inspired me to showcase diverse facets of art.” This experience continues shaping his professional journey. 

More than just an exhibition space, the CYS Art Exhibition Hall serves as a dynamic platform for the promotion of Chinese cultural heritage, seamlessly integrating art, education and community engagement. 

In addition to hosting compelling exhibitions, the Hall supports the CYS Distinguished Visiting Scholars Programme, which invites renowned scholars and experts from around the world to engage in intellectual, artistic and cultural exchanges, fostering interdisciplinary academic exchange and enhancing public understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. Furthermore, several scholarships have been established to empower students from the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries (DACI) to pursue new creative opportunities. 

Before joining Lingnan, Bella Wu, now a Master of Arts in Curating and Art History student, visited the CYS Art Exhibition Hall and was deeply impressed. Upon enrolment, she became an intern at the Hall, where she served as a docent and actively contributed to exhibition research. These practical experiences enabled her to apply classroom knowledge to real world exhibitions, greatly enriching her academic journey. 

Through these inspiring and immersive learning experiences, the Chamber of Young Snow and Lingnan University are cultivating a new generation of curators with a global perspective, while continuously fostering greater public appreciation and affection for Chinese culture.
