LIFE students win awards in “Humanities in the Digital Age” Competition

The competition, organized by the Faculty of Humanities at The Education University of Hong Kong, aims to encourage tertiary students to unleash their creativity and utilize digital tools to express their perspectives and concerns about the world through their creations.

Two LIFE students were honoured with awards in the competition. YEUNG Hoi Ning, Associate of Arts (History) Year 1 student, won the top Gold Award in the “Creative Writing” category with her short story《於無人在意的角落》. The work delicately and vividly portrays the real struggles and inner conflicts of marginalized youth in the modern city, reflecting the alienation and loneliness among people in the digital age. The story’s somewhat heavy and sombre tone effectively evokes public empathy and concern for the vulnerable group.

YAU Wai To, Associate of Arts (History) Year 2 student, received the Bronze Award in the “Creative Writing” category for his poem《致母親的信》. The poem employs personification by metaphorically depicting civilization as a mother, reflecting on the wars, conflicts, and contradictions that have accompanied human development from primitive society to modern civilization. Through powerful and resonant verses, he criticizes humanity’s destructive behaviour despite its civilized progress and calls on everyone to learn from history and pursue peace.

Congratulations once again to the two award-winning students. The outstanding achievements of LIFE students not only bring honour to the institute but also highlight its commitment to nurturing talents with humanistic care and digital innovation capabilities. LIFE will continue to promote interdisciplinary and cross-institutional learning and creative projects to equip students to meet the challenges of our times and contribute positively to society.
