#A Turn in the Academic Journey: Paving a Diverse Path to Further Studies with a Diploma
As a candidate for the 2020 DSE (Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination), I was plunged into confusion after failing the exam that year. However, the diploma program from 2020 to 2021 became the starting point for a turnaround in my academic pursuits. This learning experience not only helped me regain confidence in pursuing further studies but also demonstrated the unique advantage of diploma programs in offering “diverse pathways for development”.

After completing the diploma, I studied for an Associate Degree in Applied Science (majoring in Nutrition and Food Management) at the Hong Kong Baptist University - Affiliated College from 2021 to 2023. Later, I returned to Lingnan University and pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (majoring in Health and Social Service Management) from 2023 to 2025. Soon, I will be progressing to study for a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences in Health and Social Service Management at the same university. Throughout this journey, the foundation laid by the diploma program has been crucial. It enabled me to make smoother transitions between different academic fields and helped me explore diverse interests and career directions.

During my studies, I actively built good teacher - student relationships and expanded a wide - ranging professional network. Teachers not only provided professional academic guidance but also used their experience to help me plan my further study and career paths. By exchanging stories of different backgrounds and experiences with classmates, I gained more information about further studies and practical experiences.

To students who are in a period of academic confusion, I want to say that failing the DSE does not mean the end of your learning journey. A diploma program is like a bridge, connecting past regrets on one end and leading to infinite possibilities on the other. Whether you want to pursue academic advancement or develop vocational skills, it can provide support. All roads lead to Rome, and a diploma program is a powerful oar that helps us reach the other side of our ideals. As long as you seize opportunities and keep exploring, you will surely carve out a wonderful academic journey of your own!
