School-level Committee

1. To be responsible to the Senate for the academic standards and quality assurance of the programmes and courses (both undergraduate and postgraduate) offered by the School of Data Science and to report thereon to the Senate from time to time;
2. To endorse new programme/course proposals, annual programme reports and 5-year programme reviews of the programmes housed under the divisions of the School/ the School-level Centre(s)/ Institute(s)/ the School;
3. To review annual reports from divisions of the School, the School-level Centre(s)/ Institute(s), and the School;
4. To serve as a forum to stimulate academic development, and research and knowledge transfer activities of the School and discuss issues and policies related to the development and operation of the School and to make decisions where appropriate;
5. To be responsible to the Postgraduate Studies Committee for issues relating to the admission, studentship, progression and graduation of research postgraduate students, as well as the appointment of supervisors for research postgraduate students of the School;
6. To set up committees, task forces and working groups as appropriate in support of the academic and quality assurance work of the School;
7. To assess/ confirm applications applying for Research Committee One-line allocation and to report the funding results to the Research Committee, subject to availability of fund; and review the reports on use/allocation of research grants to SDS staff;
8. To perform any other duty as may be required by the Senate.

# The Research Coordinator1 is an academic staff coordinating the research-related matters within the School. The main roles of Convenor are to convene the meetings and provide detailed information of each agenda items of the RPSC. Convenor is a member with vote right.

§ One member elected for this category should be the Programme Director of Master of Research in Advanced Data Science, because of the programme’s research-oriented nature.

^ The student member should be a full member of the RPSC and attends the meetings for agenda items relating to research postgraduate matters, except those the Chairperson considers confidential.

1. Formulating policies pertaining to teaching and learning for all UG and TPg programmes of the School;
2. Overseeing quality assurance matters of UG and TPg programmes, including curriculum development, programme monitoring, and review;
3. Reviewing and approving proposals for new programmes and major revisions to existing programmes before submission to the Academic Quality Assurance Committee (AQAC) for UG programmes or Postgraduate Studies Committee (PSC) for TPg programmes;
4. Monitoring student admissions, progression, and achievement across all UG and TPg programmes;
5. Coordinating cross-programme initiatives and ensuring consistency in academic standards among all programmes within the School;
6. Overseeing teaching assignment and allocation of academic staff to courses across the School;
7. Advising the SDSMB on matters related to teaching and learning quality assurance and enhancement for both UG and TPg education;
8. Monitoring and promoting good practices in teaching and learning, including pedagogical innovation and educational technology adoption.

* The main roles of Chairperson are to oversee and chair the meetings of the CTL. The Chairperson does not vote unless it is necessary to break a tie. The Chairperson should be nominated from one of Associate Deans (i.e. PiCs of the two Divisions) but cannot be the Chairperson of Research and Postgraduate Studies Committee (RPSC) in Data Science at the same time. In case that two Associate Deans are not eligible for the Chairperson of CTL, a senior academic staff (i.e., Associate Professor or Associate Professor of Teaching or above) in the SDS will be nominated by Chairperson of SDSSIC and appointed by the Dean of SDS.

# The Academic Coordinator is an academic staff coordinating the teaching- and learning-related matters within the School. The main roles of Convenor are to convene the meetings and provide detailed information of each agenda items of the CTL. Convenor is a member with vote right.

1. To identify and evaluate special issues that may influence the School’s academic direction, operational efficiency, or strategic priorities.
2. To solicit feedback from relevant stakeholders across SDS divisions, programmes, and units to ensure comprehensive consideration of concerns and perspectives.
3. To formulate preliminary proposals or policy responses addressing the identified issues.
4. To submit formal recommendations to the Dean for endorsement, and subsequently to the SDSMB for approval. Recommendations require support from more than 50 percent of SDSMB members to be adopted.
5. To monitor the implementation of approved recommendations and evaluate their impact where appropriate.
6. To serve as a communication channel through which faculty members and other stakeholders may raise concerns requiring attention beyond standard administrative mechanisms.
7. To liaise with relevant University-level administrative offices when special issues intersect with broader institutional policies or governance frameworks.

§ IT Coordinator is responsible for the school's IT-related issues and appointed by the Chairperson of SDSSIC.

^ Data Protection Officer is responsible for school’s data protection and privacy issues and is appointed by the Chairperson of the SDSSIC.
