As an emerging global power, China exerts significant political and economic influence across the Asia-Pacific region. This is exemplified by its Belt and Road Initiative and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement, which have had a profound impact on the economies of many Asian countries, particularly in the infrastructure sector. Given China's importance to global development and geopolitics, its engagement in Asia and Africa merits in-depth study. However, current academic programmes and research lack specialised courses focusing on China's involvement in East Asia. The CRDS programme has been established to fill this gap, providing opportunities for those who wish to deepen their understanding of China – East Asia relations and to pursue careers in this field.

Part of the programme is delivered through experiential learning, exchange sojourns, guest lectures, and international conferences. Students will be asked to attend and present at various international academic conferences. The programme also provides students with opportunities for overseas study trips and exchanges in the UK, South Korea, etc. In addition, some courses collaborate with different overseas and local universities and professional institutions, and students are able to connect with different experts in the field and other post-graduate students around the world, thereby broadening their global perspectives.
