“Macao Old-age Security Mechanism Development Research”

The Macao SAR Government has realised the challenges brought by population ageing to her city and the Chief Executive Fernando Chui has pledged to establish an old-age security mechanism to cope with the situation while enhancing the wellbeing of older persons in Macau. The development process comprises of 2 background researches on stocktaking both the international and local responses towards the ageing population in Macau while identifying elderly needs and hence the service gaps. Then a policy framework with subsequent action plan of 10-year duration, cooperation mechanism and evaluation procedures shall be proposed for public consideration. The complete report shall serve as guidance to all parties and individuals in Macau.

“Content Development For e-learning Project of ASTRI ”

ASTRI initiated a pilot e-learning project for the Elderly Lounge of the Clague Garden Estate in Tsuen Wan to promote the Age-Friendly Cities Concept. Contents developed will be around 5 themes namely “home environment”, “health management”, “physique strengthening”, “happiness” and “mental health”. Materials including e-texts and e-quizzes with contents of the aforementioned themes are distributed online for individuals of interest to access.

“Evaluation Plan for Leung King Friendly Network”

“Leung King Friendly Network” is a 3-year project which introduces a House Captain Networks in Tuen Mun Leung King Estate. It mobilises local residents as well as participants to pair with elder residents and families in need in this community. A “house captain system” was established in the estates to facilitate the provision of neighbourhood care.
This evaluation study used focus group discussions and questionnaire survey to measure the changes of social capital in the community from 5 aspects: 1) social solidarity, 2) social tolerance, 3) social participation, 4) self-help and mutual-help, and 5) positive values. Views and perceptions in community collaboration and participation from both the service recipients and providers’s perspectives are also collected to further improve the bond of the community.

“Evaluation Study for TWGHs “Dancing Life” – Youth Empowerment Project”

The project targets on 150 disadvantaged youth aged 15-24 in Tuen Mun district and networks 760 people from different social strata to cultivate their growth, aiming at improving their self-competence and self-confidence as well as build up positive life directions via a mutual help network comprised of the participants, mentors, elderly, mentally handicapped people and skilled tutors.
This evaluation study utilised focus group discussions and questionnaire survey to evaluate changes of young people in term of attitudes and behaviors after joining dancing, mentorship programs and training courses including stage management, etc.
It is expected that positive changes of social capital in the community from 5 aspects namely 1) social solidarity, 2) social tolerance, 3) social participation, 4) self-help and mutual-help, and 5) positive values can be achieved.
