Global Chinese Studies
Aims
The new concentration shares the aims of its parent MAC programme with emphasis on global features. It aims to equip students with a deeper knowledge of Chinese literature and culture, more broadly defined, in the context of global literary studies. It provides the students with solid training in Chinese literary research with a focus on sinological approaches. The new concentration introduces students to a wide range of theoretical, literary, filmic and cultural texts of Chinese literature from the perspective of international Chinese studies. It enhances professional development for those engaging in education, media, publishing and other new industries in the age of globalisation and technological advancement.
Intended Learning Outcomes
- Critically identify historical developments and trends in global Chinese studies, demonstrating an understanding of their significance in contemporary contexts;
- Appraise Chinese literature in different geographical and historical context from the perspective of global Chinese studies;
- Apply relevant methodologies from global Chinese studies to the analysis of literary works and demonstrate the ability to synthesise diverse theoretical perspectives; and
- Demonstrate proficiency in interdisciplinary studies, cross-cultural communication, and global engagement, articulating the importance of these skills in addressing contemporary issues related to Chinese studies.

Teaching mode
Normally, courses would be delivered in Lecture-Tutorial mode. Some courses will be delivered in seminar mode.
Duration of Study
Full-time: Each academic year is divided into 3 terms, including first term (September - December), second term (January - May), and summer term (June - August). The duration of study would be 2-5 terms normally.
Time & Venue
Ful-time: Except for CHI502 Directed Thesis, all subjects would take 3 hours during weekdays and Saturdays on the Main Campus, mainly.

Graduation Requirement
Students are required to take 30 or more credits within the duration of study and achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.67 or above in order to graduate. The maximum study period for full-time students is 2 years (including any periods of leave).
Degree Classification
Students who meet the graduation requirement would be awarded Master of Arts in Chinese Literature degree and classified into the following categories based on the cumulative GPA:
