Luk Wing Chun, Kenny General Manager Steelco Pacific Trading Ltd Graduate of 2005 (BBA-Marketing) | The three-year journey spent in Lingnan University was a fruitful one, especially with the great support from all the faculty members in MIB along the road.
We’ve learnt a lot of theories with real-world cases on marketing products, services and even to create your own business. All these sounds academical but were proven to be crucial when I started the online-trading business during the time in LU. Even when I was in the US for half a year as an exchange student, I could still run the business as long as there was an internet connection. It was so excited to bring what you’ve learnt into play, and to catch the amazing opportunity of which “online trading” was still a “blue ocean” at that time.
The chance given by the faculty to work in The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) as a summer internship was also unique and valuable. Not only did we have a chance to put things into practice, but the project also surprised the top management with new ideas and high standard of work. After this kind of real-life training, you just felt you were ready to compete for any jobs you desired.
Having been in the international steel trading for almost 20 years, from giant corporations to a private enterprise, I can’t tell whether it’s that online business leading me into the trading world; but somehow, the path seems to be matching my original aspirations. I’m very grateful to all the advice, support and life experience shared by the faculty members, which cleared my doubts about some key decisions as well as the move to pursue the master degree (LLM) in the UK by taking a pause in my career life.
Looking back, I feel blessed to have them backed me up for those adventures. A new chapter in life might also be waiting for you. Do cherish every person you meet and the time you have here. Make it count! |
