2025 Asia Pacific Comparative Policy Symposium
Aligning Lives and Systems: Cultural, Institutional, and Policy Perspectives on Well-being

On 2 November 2025, Lingnan University hosted the annual Comparative Social Policy Symposium, bringing together scholars and practitioners from Hong Kong and around the world to explore critical issues in well-being and social protection.
This year’s theme focused on aligning individual needs with structural conditions to foster inclusive and sustainable models of population well-being. The symposium featured two engaging panels:
- Morning Panel: Perspectives on Well-being – Needs, Norms, and Life Satisfaction in Context
- Afternoon Panel: Social Protection and the Life Course – Institutions, Support, and Vulnerability
Participants enjoyed thought-provoking discussions, global perspectives, and collaborative dialogue aimed at rethinking well-being and social policy for diverse communities.

2024 Asia Pacific Comparative Development and Policy Symposium
The Multiple and Intersectional Impacts of Risks in Hong Kong and Beyond

The #IMCSP programme organised the “2024 Asia Pacific Comparative Development and Policy Symposium” entitled The Multiple and Intersectional Impacts of Risks in Hong Kong and Beyond on November 9, 2024. The symposium gathered eight scholars from Hong Kong and abroad to deliver panel presentations across topics on the gig economy and labour precarity, climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, population dynamics, gender-based violence, artificial intelligence (AI), pandemics, and public health, and their social and public policy implications. The symposium allowed students to discuss the most pressing social problems Hong Kong and other economies face with the presenters and faculty from the Department of Sociology and Social Policy.
