Ginbert Permejo CUATON has a PhD in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He researches social policy issues in the nexus of disasters, displacements, and climate action in Southeast Asia, and his works have been cited in globally important reports and policy instruments by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), UN-Water, and UNFAO. In 2024, he served as an expert in the review and development of UNESCO's Guidance Note on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in the age of climate emergency.
His papers are published in leading academic journals, such as Geoforum, World Development, International Journal for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Third World Quarterly. The British Academy, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Sydney Environment Institute, the HKUST Institute for the Environment, and the La Trobe University of Australia have funded his collaborative and interdisciplinary projects in the Philippines and Malaysia.
