Our Engagement with the Hong Kong Arts Festival | When Youth Meets Theatre: An Immersive Journey Behind the Scenes of "The Drunkard"

On February 24-25, 2026, the Friends of the Hong Kong Arts Festival for Youth opened a gateway to the enchanting realm of theatre for MScATB students from Lingnan University. In this meticulously crafted immersive workshop, students transcended the role of passive spectators, stepping instead behind the stage to feel the pulse of drama and the heartbeat of art.

Centered around the acclaimed Hong Kong Arts Festival production "The Drunkard," the workshop seamlessly blended classic text with creative interaction, guiding participants through a transformative journey from observation to experience, and from comprehension to creation.

In just a few hours of immersive engagement, students not only grasped the intricacies of theatre but also uncovered boundless possibilities in artistic creation. This workshop represents an innovative approach to arts education and a beautiful convergence of youth and theatre. We believe that when these students return to the theatre in the future, they will perceive more of the scenery hidden behind the curtains with a deeper understanding of drama—the most captivating essence of arts education.
