Shenzhen-Hong Kong Study Tour: An Odyssey into Oriental Aesthetics

On January 16, 2026, as part of the ATB504 Art-Tech Integration course, 131 MScATB students from the 2025-2026 cohort embarked on a journey to Shenzhen, visiting the Shenzhen Jewelry Museum and the Qi Art Museum. There, they immersed themselves in the beauty of jade and unlocked new realms of Oriental treasures.

The Shenzhen Jewelry Museum marked the starting point of this aesthetic odyssey. Spanning two floors, it houses over a thousand precious artifacts, ranging from prehistoric jade to contemporary haute couture jewelry, and from natural raw stones to intangible cultural heritage craftsmanship, offering a panoramic view of jewelry culture across time and space.

While the Shenzhen Jewelry Museum presents a comprehensive view of jewelry culture, the Qi Art Museum provides an exclusive window into jade aesthetics. With thousands of collections including raw jade stones, carvings, modern and contemporary ornaments, and jewelry, it serves as a bridge between Oriental aesthetics and international art, where each piece narrates a tale of pure artistic pursuit.

This study tour was an immersion in aesthetics and a resonance of culture, nurturing Lingnan students with the wisdom and craftsmanship hidden in the jade's luster, and fortifying their cultural confidence in the clash of diverse cultures to inherit the beauty of the East.
