Risk and Safety Guidelines

All safety issues should be reported to the department and the Office of Service-Learning should be informed as soon as possible.

Unfavorable health condition
If students become ill or a have a health condition that affects the attendance or service provision, they are asked to report to this to the course instructor and Service-Learning coordinator, and to choose a suitable project. If the illness or health condition occurs after the project starts, students should report to their course instructor and Service-Learning coordinator, and seek doctor's consultation immediately.

Illness / Injury / Accident
If students encounter illness / injury / accidents during the time of service provision, they are strongly advised to visit the hospital / clinic for medical treatment until the condition allows them to be discharged. Accident cases should also be reported to the department, Office of Service-Learning, and the University for follow-up action.

Students are requested to obtain original clinical receipts showing the name of the patient, diagnosis, amount of payment, date of consultation, and the description of each service rendered for the purpose of recording and/or processing necessary insurance claims.

Crime Case
If any suspected crime case happens during the time of the service practicum, no matter if it is a student being accused of a crime or students being a victim of a crime, the case should be reported to police. Course instructors should follow-up on the case with the department, and the Office of Service-Learning, and determine if the student should continue the service practicum.

Unsatisfactory Performance / Misbehavior of Students
Insufficient class/service attendance, unsatisfactory service performance and/or misbehavior reported by the agency supervisors and/or observed by the course instructor or the OSL coordinator should be communicated between the relevant parties. If the unsatisfactory performance persists, the course instructor has the right to determine if the student can continue/pass the service project/course.
