A Qualitative Study on the Challenges and Coping Strategies of Compound Carers in Hong Kong

Funded by the Research Grants Council, Asia-Pacific Institute of Aging Studies is conducting a one-year study on compound carers. As population aging becomes more prevalent and family configurations transform, a greater number of households are depending on a single carer to support two or more family members, often in sandwich or intergenerational settings. These carers face compounded time, financial, and emotional pressures, yet current services and policies have not fully addressed their distinct needs. The study will identify key challenges and support gaps, assess the effectiveness of existing services, and propose practical policy and service recommendations to reduce caregiver burden.
