Life Story and Epitaph

The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies of Lingnan University received a donation from the Board of Management of The Chinese Permanent Cemeteries (BMCPC). Starting from December 2024, we will organize a one-year “Life Story and Epitaph” project. This project aims to explore the meaning of life and the values worth passing on through a tombstone inscription workshop where young people and the elderly can collaborate. By co-creating and exhibiting tombstone inscriptions, the elderly will have the opportunity to convey a positive outlook on life, allowing young people to learn the importance of cherishing life and pursuing a meaningful existence.

Life-and-Death Workshops (March to June 2025)

By sharing examples of different tombstone inscriptions, participants reflect on their personal experiences, distilling positive values into their inscriptions and recognizing the importance of education on life and death.

Participants reflect on their lives and values by designing tombstone inscriptions, distilling positive lessons into their epitaphs and recognizing the significance of life and death education. Guided by an experienced tutor, they used laser engraving technology to create a personalized miniature epitaph.

Epitaph Design Exhibition & Award Ceremony (October 2025)

We held an exhibition and an award ceremony at Lingnan University, showcasing the outcomes of the epitaph and STEM creations to the public, allowing more people to experience the power of intergenerational communication and appreciate the importance of life education.
