The only awardee at THE Awards Asia 2026 - Lingnan University’s CineSim wins Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year

Transforming film education through interactive game – CineSim, developed by the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries at Lingnan University, received the Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year award at the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2026 on the evening of 22 April. Widely regarded as the Oscars of higher education, the Awards are highly competitive, and Lingnan University stood out from more than 500 entries to become the only institution to receive the Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year award. This achievement clearly demonstrates the University’s lead in educational innovation and the application of digital technologies, which have earned full recognition from the international higher education community.

AI的高效率引起各界關注，嶺大數碼藝術及創意產業系助理教授徐嫻教授就充分利用這一優勢，以AI賦能其研發「StorySketcher：兒童主導AI故事創作平台」，幫助兒童發揮創意。該平台能將兒童的畫作發展成完整且獨特的文字故事，甚至可製成影片，激發兒童的敘事創造力、邏輯思考與語言表達能力，讓創作充滿樂趣。

CineSim Developed by DACI Faculty has Won the Silver Medal at the 5th Asia Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations Hong Kong

CineSim: Interactive Cinematography Lab, developed by Lingnan University and our DACI Faculty member, Dr. Tobby Kan, has won a Silver Medal at the 5th Asia Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations Hong Kong.

Lingnan University Develops CineSim to Support Film Education

To break barriers in film production education, the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries at Lingnan University has developed CineSim — the world’s first university-developed film production simulation software. After two years of research, the software is now available free of charge to all Lingnan staff and students, and was recently launched on the global platform Steam. Project lead and Senior Lecturer Mr. Kan Shiu Tao says CineSim addresses key challenges faced by students lacking equipment or drawing skills, offering an interactive and accessible learning experience. The team plans to expand its reach to secondary schools and the industry, and is currently developing a VR version expected in 2026.

Award-winning Lingnan student develops learning app for special needs students

About six hundred Lingnan students at different levels and from different disciplines won both external and internal accolades on their academic achievements and contributions to society. Among these is an animation and digital arts student for outstanding leadership and as a young advocate for equal education opportunities. final-year awardee Yolanda Ko Shuen from the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries received a Chow Pak Choi Scholarship, a For Our Future Scholarship, and a Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme - Outstanding Performance Scholarship.
