Dr. Evangelia Demerouti is a Full Work and Organizational Psychology Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology. Since 2015 she has been a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and since 2017 the Chief Diversity Officer at Eindhoven University of Technology. Her research focuses on the processes enabling performance, including the effects of work characteristics, individual job strategies (including job crafting and decision-making), occupational well-being, and work-life balance. She has developed the Job Demands-Resources model, which can be used to diagnose the working conditions that are responsible for employee well-being and functioning at work. This model is one of the most impactful models in work and organizational psychology and management in terms of research (as the main publication on the model is cited over 18000 times in Google Scholar) as well as in practice since many consultancies and organizations use it to improve the working conditions of employees. Her recent work concerns developing and implementing bottom-up job redesign interventions (i.e., job crafting) to enhance employee well-being, work performance, and adaptive behavior. She has published over 250 national and international papers and book chapters on these topics. High-impact journals such as the Journal of applied psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Organizational behavior, and Journal of Occupational Health Psychology have published her work. In 2023, she was ranked number 419 of the most cited researchers internationally and across disciplines (https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/6), as well as among the top 50 (ranked 24) most impactful researchers worldwide in Management & Business (https://harzing.com/blog/2024/02/top-50-academics-in-business-management-worldwide-new-2023-ranking). As Chief Diversity Officer she advised the TU/e to introduce the Irène Curie Fellowship, which positively influenced the diversity within the university but had also substantial influence on national and European level (e.g. https://www.scienceguide.nl/2022/09/europese-wet-over-positieve-discriminatie-verouderd/). She is often invited to European and international congresses as a keynote speaker. The European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology awarded her a lifetime fellowship. Currently, she is the associate editor of the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology and a member of the editorial board of several high-impact journals in her discipline. She has accommodated several young researchers and is very engaged in promoting diversity and inclusion in various (public sector) organizations.
