Prof. XU Jie's Joint Study Finds AI Autonomously Taking Over Tasks May Raise Mental Fatigue and Cause Human‑Machine Conflict

A joint study conducted by the Department of Psychology at Lingnan University found that while AI helps maintain employee performance during surges in workload, allowing it to autonomously decide when to take over and relinquish control may make it difficult for users to regain situational awareness, thereby increasing mental fatigue and even leading to human-machine conflict.

The Department of Psychology of Lingnan University and the Department of Psychology of Renmin University of China Renew Partnership Agreement

The Department of Psychology of Lingnan University (LU) and the Department of Psychology of Renmin University of China (RUC) signed another five-year cooperation agreement on 11 April 2024, marking a new chapter of collaboration. The agreement covers teaching exchanges, research collaboration, and professional development, and includes a sub-agreement on a Master's Degree Student Exchange Programme.

The signing ceremony was held at LU. Professor Siu Oi Ling, Head of the Department of Psychology at LU, and Professor Xin Zi-qiang, Head of the Department of Psychology at RUC, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective departments. Prof Joshua Mok Ka Ho, Vice-President of LU, and Professor William Hayward, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, delivered speeches and witnessed the ceremony together with Professor Wen Xiaotong, Associate Head of the Department of Psychology at RUC. After the signing ceremony, representatives and faculty members from both sides introduced their research areas and discussed collaboration opportunities.

The agreement signifies a further integration of strengths in research and teaching between the two departments. Over the next five years, LU and RUC aim to create more opportunities for academic seminars, collaborative research, and student exchanges and training, contributing to psychology education and research in Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Lingnan University & Sun Yat-sen University renewed a five-year partnership

Lingnan University and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) renewed a five-year partnership agreement in psychology on 15 January, marking a new chapter in their collaboration. The agreement aims to enhance academic exchanges in psychology between the two universities and strengthen cooperation in research.

The signing ceremony was held at Lingnan, where Prof Siu Oi-ling, Head of the Department of Psychology at Lingnan, and Prof Zuo Bin, Head of the Department of Psychology at SYSU, signed the agreement. Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, and Prof William Hayward, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, also attended, together with Prof Pan Jing, Associate Head of the Department of Psychology at SYSU.

The renewed partnership will create more opportunities for joint research, student exchanges and training, and other academic development.
