Cross-cultural psychology in action: Lingnan and Sungkyunkwan host joint symposium in Seoul
The Departments of Psychology of Lingnan University and Sungkyunkwan University host the Second Joint Symposium on Psychology.
On 25 April 2025, the Departments of Psychology of Lingnan University and Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) hosted the Second Joint Symposium on Psychology at SKKU’s Suseon Hall in Seoul, Korea. This academic event was part of an ongoing collaboration between the two institutions, and brought together faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and students from both universities for a vibrant exchange of research ideas across psychology disciplines.
Presenters included: Prof Jay Xu Jie, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology at Lingnan University, who spoke of his work on modelling the use of a smartphone app recommendation system from engineering psychology and human perspective; Prof Cho Isu, Assistant Professor from the Department of Psychology at SKKU, who presented her series cross-cultural studies on age and cognition; and Prof Olivia Ouyang Xiangzi, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychology at Lingnan University, who talked about the cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors causing math-learning difficulties in children. The sessions were followed by lively discussions, and the event ended with informal networking between faculty and students, highlighting the spirit of cooperation and shared intellectual curiosity that characterises the Lingnan-SKKU partnership.
Attendees included distinguished faculty members such as Prof Siu Oi-ling, Head of the Department of Psychology and Lam Woo & Co Ltd Chair Professor of Applied Psychology at Lingnan, and Prof Wang Huatian, Research Assistant Professor from the same department, and Prof Park Daeun, Head of the Department of Psychology, and Prof Park Hyung In from SKKU. The event was also well attended by postdoctoral fellows, graduate researchers, and undergraduate students from SKKU, demonstrating the strong interest in building academic bridges between the two universities.
During this visit, the two institutions also discussed renewing their MOU promoting academic, cultural, and educational exchanges next January.
As part of Lingnan's broader engagement with academic institutions, the Departments of Psychology hosted a delegation of twenty-two postgraduate students led by Prof Hu Siyuan and Ms Zhu Di from Beijing Normal University on 6 May. Three Lingnan faculty members and three PhD students delivered seminar presentations, which were followed by lively discussions.
