New Smart Recycling Bins: enhancing recycling on campus
To further its commitment to sustainable development, Lingnan University has installed three Smart Recycling Bins on campus. In partnership with the Environmental Protection Department, these bins facilitate the 24-hour, self-service collection of metal, plastic, and glass. By participating, users can earn GREEN$ points through the GREEN$ Electronic Participation Incentive Scheme, promoting a new smart recycling experience for students and staff.

Lunchbox Lending Machine: promoting reusable food containers
To support our ongoing commitment to sustainability, the Lunchbox Lending Machine continues to serve staff and students outside the canteen. This initiative provides free, reusable lunchboxes that can be borrowed and returned at any time. These lunchboxes are ideal for takeaway meals from the canteen or for transporting food purchased elsewhere. The newly designed lunchboxes also include chopsticks, reducing the need for disposable utensils and promoting a reduction in single-use plastics.

Bug Wars Against Food Waste Project: reducing food waste at Lingnan
To reduce food waste, Lingnan University launched the Bug Wars Against Food Waste Project in 2023, promoting waste-to-energy solutions. The project utilises black soldier flies to address campus food waste. Their excreta serve as an excellent organic fertiliser for cultivating campus plants, and the nutrient-rich larvae can be used as turtle feed. This method helps address the sustainable development challenges posed by food waste.
