Jie (Jay) Xu's research focuses on human-AI interaction, with an emphasis on exploring how humans and AI agents understand and adapt to each other and designing intelligent systems that promote performance, safety, and well-being. His recent work includes investigating social perception and interactive behavior in human-AI interaction, designing transparent AI systems, and developing algorithms for AI agents to recognize human behavioral intentions and team dynamics. His expertise extends to user experience design for consumer products and human-system integration for complex systems such as healthcare and aviation. He serves as a committee member of the Committee on Engineering Psychology, Chinese Psychological Society, and a member of the editorial board of the journal Ergonomics.
Dr. Xu received a Ph.D. and M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Donghua University and a B.S. (minor) in Applied Psychology from East China Normal University.
