“I participated in many ILP activities, but the one that left the deepest impression on me was "Hike With the VETS." This event greatly contributed to my growth. Initially, I felt nervous speaking with native speakers, but I gradually became more confident and fluent during the hike. I also made many friends, and we supported each other when feeling exhausted, experiencing warmth and camaraderie. There were unexpected surprises along the way, like encountering a breathtaking sunset. This activity showed me that language learning can be vibrant and engaging. I no longer fear mistakes and now confidently communicate with others.”

"I participated in an ILP activity called "The Animal Service at Dog Kennel." We received training on dog care, pet communication, and kennel hygiene. Then, we went to a kennel in Yuen Long for community service. We split into teams to clean the kennel's outfield, rest area, and garden, crucial for the health of the numerous stray dogs and cats. The animals were incredibly docile, and after cleaning, we enjoyed playing with them, making the experience truly heartwarming."

Service Learning for All
Service in Heart, Knowledge in Action
To graduate, we need to complete courses that include service-learning projects and meet a required number of service hours.
Unlike regular volunteering, service-learning requires students to apply classroom knowledge in practical settings, creating meaningful value from their learning.
Students in a course on climate change and health engaged in a beach clean-up and conduct a waste audit of the collected debris.
Students traveled to the Philippines and visited a sugarcane plantations to interview local farmers.
Students were accompanying junkshop collectors as they scoured the streets for valuable recyclables.
Students enrolled in a course on technology and cultural change experienced firsthand the benefits of a low-carbon lifestyle.
Students studying Hong Kong society reached out to tenants of subdivided flats to collect tenancy-related information.
Service leadership students organized inter-generational activities to understand social issues affecting both the older and younger segments of Hong Kong's population.

“In the Service-Learning programme I participated in, our team taught beginner programming to 12 children living in subdivided units in Tsuen Wan. This was my first experience teaching children as a STEAM instructor, and it significantly enhanced my resilience as an educator. It also provided me with a deeper understanding of the needs within Hong Kong society. Just to share, children aged 8-12 are often energetic and occasionally rebellious, which initially posed challenges in effective communication. However, our team worked together to discover effective ways to capture their attention, leading to successful and engaging classes!”

“Although Lingnan University's campus is small, it is beautifully and elegantly decorated. Walking from the hostel to the teaching building takes only ten minutes, making it very convenient. Each dormitory room accommodates two or three students, and there is a common room on each floor where my roommates and I often cook and dine with friends. The supporting amenities, including refrigerators and water heaters are comprehensive. Living with classmates is particularly joyful.”

The University provides 2,600 on-campus student hostel places for our students.
Each residence hall is managed by a professor, and is staffed with senior tutors and a team of mentors. They live alongside the students, offering comprehensive support and guidance for daily life.
The University offers two types of accommodations: double rooms and triple rooms.
Hostel tutors and student-led residence associations organize various dormitory activities to promote relationships among residents.
